Suntory Whisky’s Tako Matsuri at Summit Bar

Summit Bar on Avenue C in the East Village hosted Tako Matsuri — the Japanese Kite Festival — with Suntory Whisky on Sunday. The brand ambassadors, Gardner Dunn and Neyah White, were on hand to discuss Suntory’s great single malt brands: Yamazaki, Hibiki, and a new one to the U.S. market, Hakushu. Summit Bar was slinging delicious Yamazaki 12 year highballs made with yuzu juice, but my favorite drink of the evening was either the limited edition Hakushu Sherry Cask whisky (which, alas, will not make it to the U.S.) or the Hibiki 12 year.

Each of us got to blend a flask of Hakushu, choosing our own proportions of three styles: the Hogshead, sherry oaked, and smoky.
